Our Editorial Review
Editorial Review This hand held version of the popular V Smile educational game console makes for a handy companion on a trip, in the backyard, or wherever a kid might want to go. It works with all the same V Smile "smartridges" as the larger console and features adaptable buttons for left and right handed play. Back at home, it can also plug into a television set to play all the games on a bigger screen. The appeal of the V Smile series, of course, is that all the games are educational and help build skills that kids don't even realize they're building. This pocket size set includes a game of Zayzoo, My Alien Classmate that teaches vocabulary, math, logic, and more. --Charlie Williams
Product Description No excuses anymore! Not only can you take the V.Smile Pocket Learning System and Smartriges any place now, it can also connect to a TV. Build a child's brain on-the-go. This portable learning system will stretch your child's mind and possibilities. Requires 4 "AA" batteries (included). Measures 7.5" x 2" x 5.1". Smartridges sold separately.
Customer Reviews
It's Wonderful When It Works Posted 12 March 2007 The concept behind V.Smile's Interactive Learning Handheld Game is excellent: Kids learn through "playing" video games based on popular kids' TV series, movies, etc. Titles for this device range from Batman to Dora the Explorer to a whole slew of Disney games. My five-year-old daughter loves this thing. It's really improved her reading and mathematical skills, as well as her spelling and problem solving skills. It's a wonderful toy.
However, we've had quite a few problems with the game device. The separately purchased rechargeable battery pack is shot. It lasted less than six months. The device gobbles up alkaline batteries like there's no tomorrow. Also, the game will often lock up and we spend quite a bit of time turning the game off and on and sometimes reseating the batteries until the device comes back to life. If V-Tech ever gets these kinks out of the system, this will be the perfect educational tool for kids of today. Until then, I can only give the V.Smile four stars.
Excellent Product - My kid is learning like crazy Posted 08 March 2007 Before I got the product, my kid was just understanding putting her letters together (the sound with the look of letters). Now, she's enjoying learning and is interested in how words go together! I'm so happy! Can hardly keep batteries in the thing.

_CAUTION_: This toy does NOT come with Alphabet Park. I had to borrow it from my sister. Toy comes with some martian game for older kids. My child is 3.

Worth Getting...
Great Posted 07 February 2007 I bought this for my 4yr old niece who has the unit that attaches to the TV. She'd been watching her brother with his Nintendo DS and wanted something that she could take with her in the car. Christmas morning as soon as she opened this up, you couldn't get it away from her! And I love the fact that it uses the same games for each system.
Great games/kids love it - BUT It doesnt work Posted 05 February 2007 I wish I would of read your reviews before I bought this, our first one just died, I bought another and within a week - that one just died. I feel so bad for my son because he loves the games, those are great. But, I am upset because I have invested so much money in the games that its just not easy to dump and purchase the Leapster, so I suggest to read these reviews carefully and think twice before buying this product. I had Vtech send me a new one, I am not paying for anymore.
My very active boy will work on it for an hour. Posted 30 January 2007 My very active 5 year old son had shown no interest at all in the "educational" toys for pre-reading, pre-math. He showed no interest in video games or gameboys. I gave him the handheld V-Smile with his favorite Disney characters and he's reading, spelling and now after a few weeks, doing the math games with pleasure and concentration. He loves it. I love it. It was great on the air plane. It lets me know he's doing something constructive while I make dinner. He wears his headphones and every few minutes I hear him yell, WOO HOO I got it!
