Our Editorial Review

Product Description Ghost Recon 3: Advanced Warfighter shows you the future of military science, today. In 2013, the U.S. Army will implement the Integrated Warfighter System -- combining advanced weapon systems, satellite communication devices and enhanced survivability into one fully integrated combat system. The first to test this new system on the battlefield are the Ghosts, as they face an insurgence in the heart of Mexico City.

If you are a fan of the Ghost Recon series then you will really like this game. I can't wait to play the 2nd version "Advanced War fighter 2"

Frustrating beyond belief, but fun Toy excellence rate star - kids love itToy excellence rate star - kids love itToy excellence rate star - kids love it Posted 06 March 2007
(NOTE: This is a review of the PC version) I'm a FPS veteran and have been playing tactical shooters since the first Rainbow Six. This game is great fun, I'll give you that, but in the first mission you get the impression that the designers peppered enemies in random spots just to make the game harder. Enemies have scripted movements, but don't move much beyond that. If you find one it will sit in its place and not move, often-times not even seeing you. It's the ones you don't find that become frustrating because they're around every corner and they're all expert marksmen, have eyes like a hawk and ungodly reaction times. The other frustrating factor is that your men die because they don't follow instructions correctly and stay put. You tell them to stop and they'll move around anyway. You try to place them in the correct location but often times they move somewhere else or don't move at all. I've also found that ghost #1 is the worst at movement for some reason. Enemy are positioned in such a way that you can't move from one building to the next without being drawn into a trap of fire from multiple directions. You end up playing missions dozens of times to find the easiest path. By that time you learn where most of the enemy locations are, but even then if you make one mistake you're taking a dirt nap. Poor AI and what I like to call the enemy cheese factor really hurt this game. It could've been so much better. There's no rhyme or reason half the time for one enemy to be located behind a building, crouched and waiting. It only serves to annoy and frustrate. Couple all of this with the fact that you have long stretches of gameplay between save points and you'll be yanking your hair out by the roots in frustration. Aside from these gripes the game is fun and addictive. The graphics look great, except for the occasional car or other object that is stuck in the sky after an explosion. The heat wave effects are cool. Hopefully the second game (due out soon) will be better than this one. Not having a save anywhere option makes you frequently stop playing out of frustration.

This truly is an awesome game. I was a big fan of the series for the original X Box, but this game takes things to the next level and beyond. The graphics are amazing while the gameplay is well thought out and smooth. I also have Rainbow 6 Las Vegas and think GRAW is a much better game. If I had to have a gripe about the game it would be that during the later levels your health depletes quickly. It seems like you take only on or two hits and you die. It would be nice to be able to heal yourself the way you can heal your team mates. Or have more ammo boxes available to heal. Other than that I can't wait for GRAW 2 in March.

Partially objective review... Toy excellence rate star - kids love itToy excellence rate star - kids love itToy excellence rate star - kids love it Posted 21 February 2007
Good game. I have some gripes, but some are subjective. You may or may not agree.
CONS
1) [...] There are too many little distracting blips, shapes and colors on the screen. Some serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever; some served a purpose at one time (enemy vehicles) but don't anymore (empty enemy vehicles) yet they remain onscreen and are distracting.
2) too many command options and options in general. There are too many things you need to do, buttons to press to get something done. I forgot which button to press half the time or pressed the wrong button. Not completely intuitive. The tutorial level would help IF there were not so much of this.
3) friendly AI (your squad) is dumb. Previous GR games had your squad killing most of the enemies 5 seconds before you even knew they were there. Now they are often painfully dumb and all of them end up getting shot 10 seconds into any mission. You'll be patching them up OFTEN. I ended up often not sending them anywhere because I knew they would just get shot.
4) GRAB COVER. This is a new feature of many of these next-gen games (such as Gears of War). Go up to a wall in this game, you get glued to it. I get what they're trying to do here, but it's difficult for me to get used to. You get glued to a wall in inopportune close-combat moments, can't move freely fast enough and end up getting killed.
5) No "Save Anywhere" ability. This is a major gripe, because you'll be repeating the same damn thing over and over and over again, and perhaps not because YOU did anything wrong - maybe your stupid teammate did or a VIP stood out in the open waiting to get shot.
6) Grenades. Awful. They suck. This is actually a downgrade from all other Ghost Recon and Clancy games IMO. There is little control (uses a color system) over the exact distance the grenade will be thrown and it needs to be very close to an enemy to do damage. Ubisoft (and other games) uses an intuitive grenade system for Splinter Cell, why can't they do it here?

1&2 criticisms above are basically that the game is "too busy" - and this is coming from a seasoned veteran of Ghost Recon and Clancy titles in general (played 'em all for xbox). But that may be the point of the "advanced" part of the title, so the criticism may not be valid for you. 4) Again, I don't like GRAB COVER, you might. I especially don't like AUTO-GRAB COVER (used in this game). Give me a choice to do it or not.

PROS
1) solid next gen effort
2) appreciate the variety of items/vehicles. Tanks, UAVs, helicopters, and you can control them all. They took away things like lazing targets, but that's okay.
3) I like the helicopter gunner missions. Feels like I'm in Full Metal Jacket.
4) even though i find the HUD distracting and busy, there are some genuine upgrades over past GR and Clancy franchise titles...

Well-Rounded, Amazing Game! Toy excellence rate star - kids love itToy excellence rate star - kids love itToy excellence rate star - kids love itToy excellence rate star - kids love itToy excellence rate star - kids love it Posted 19 February 2007
G.R.A.W. is an amazing game. The sounds are extremely realistic and that paired up with the awesome graphics put you into the middle of war. The weapons are very well done and detailed as well as the numerous environments you will fight in. I haven't played multiplayer yet, but I know that campaign is a load of fun. The objectives are clear and the mission briefings are easy to understand. You'll get used to the controls in a day, very easy to use. G.R.A.W. 2 will be amazing because the first game in the sequence has surprised me a lot. I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants a fun, futuristic war game.

Another nice feature is the ability to put in cheat codes and still be able to unlock achievements. It's great if you're stuck or just want to breeze through single player:

***CHEAT CODES - YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO UNLOCK ACHIEVEMENTS IN CAMPAIGN!***

For all codes you must first pause the game and hold Left Trigger, Right Trigger, and the Back button. You must keep these buttons help down as you enter the following codes:

Invincibility - Y,Y,X,RB,X,LB

Team Invincibility - X,X,Y,RB,Y,LB

Infinite Ammo - RB,RB,LB,X,LB,Y
