AiAi, MeeMee, GonGon, and Baby will be joined by new characters YanYan; a young, vivacious female monkey and Doctor; an older monkey with a past steeped in mystery due to his acute case of amnesia. The addition of YanYan and Doctor also marks another first for the Super Monkey Ball franchise, differing skill-set levels for each character. Each character will have strengths and weaknesses in categories such as acceleration, speed, and jumping ability. Even the size of the monkey ball and its weight will play a role in a character's performance in the game. Doctor is a mysterious old that drifted down to Monkey Island from an unknown origin. He suffers from amnesia and doesn't even remember his own name. However, he is a well-liked, smart inventor, and everyone in town knows him as Doctor. Doctor has the highest acceleration out of the whole gang, but it's probably aided by some sort of contraption he invented. Being a bit on the old side his jumping skills aren't what they used to be as well, but he is still a good monkey to play with. YanYan is a young girl that recently moved close to AiAi's neighborhood. She is a fearless girl, a master of the mightiest Monkey martial art of pugilism, Hachi-en-Ken. She might have fallen in love with AiAi and sometimes becomes very shy around him. YanYan is the highest jumper of the entire group. Her vivatious energy allows her to reach heights that are unusual for her size. If you like to jump, YanYan is the monkey to choose.

It's okay. Nothing special. It was very hard to direct the controller to do exactly what you wanted. It was over sensitive. I rented it and I am definitely not buying it.

I have really enjoyed playing this game, the parts of it that I have been able to play. The main game plays very smoothly and is of pretty high quality. However, I purchased it for the mini-games and they deliver a lack luster performance. It is not that the games are bad, they controls don't work well. I thought the wack-a-mole would be fun for my kids, but I can't even make it work consistently. I would say that about 70% of the mini-games are not playable. Let me qualify that... After giving them the ol' college try, I became frustrated with the erratic nature of the control scheme. Snow boarding is great along with some of the races. Maybe you will be more adept than I.

Like many other of the reviewers, I have to admit, the "fun" little mini games can be very hard to play. I bought this thinking it was a fun game that wouldn't take much effort, so not the case, Sure they do have some simple fun games, but for the most part it'll takes a lot of getting use to. On the other hand the actual game isn't that bad, not that intriguing though, so I doubt i'll invest the time to actually beat it. In all, its just OK!
Too hard for the kids - too dumb for the adults Posted 28 February 2007
I have loved all the Wii games so far, so we were excited to get this one for this kids. Most of the kids (ages 4-8) found it too hard and frustrating, and when I played it, it made me half motion-sick trying to roll the characters all over the place. I guess we just didn't understand the premise of the game. I've never played the original, so if you have, you'll have a different frame of reference. At any rate, the six-year old, who figured it out better than the rest of us, still has only played it a couple of times since we got the Wii. Not worth $49, to be sure.
Great Idea, Controls are TERRIBLE Posted 26 February 2007
Whoever was in charge of making sure the controls worked and could be learned easily by non-Wii players failed so miserably on this game that they should be sentenced to death. In single player, they Wii remote does roughly what you think it should do. It's a little mushy but for the most part is acceptable. Party Mode on the other hand is almost unplayable because the controls are so bad. Besides not informing the players of what the controls are before each mini game, I have not found a game where the controls are intuitive or it is easy to control my character. I played with a bunch of my friends and after about 45 minutes of playing various games, they all considered this game a joke because of how difficult it was to do simple tasks like move their player around on the screen.
Overall, this game had so much potential but fell short it letting the player control the game accurately. I'd say don't buy this game.
