Product Description Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is the next chapter to Knights of the Old Republic saga. It's five years after the first game and the Jedi are being crushed by the Sith. The twisted wreck named Darth Sion will bring down the Republic, unless a lone Jedi can reconnect with the Force. You will guide this Jedi and make an important decision: Do you follow the Light or succumb to the Dark?

it's better than most sequels. Posted 13 March 2007 Of course, I had to purchase this due to loving the first one, but as usual, it does not have the same "umph" as the first one. RPG and Star Wars fans (the KOTOR 1 ones) should still play this. Rent it, or purchase it used or brand new for cheap. I thought it is a worthy to have in my x-box collection. It's not that bad. Yes, there are some of the same 'ol stuff, leaving things unchanged, but if you loved the first one, you will not have problems picking this up. The strongest point of it I bealive is the story. It made me want to keep going.
My biggest complaint was that the battle with the Sith Lord featured on the cover was not that great. I mean he was sith-scary, but a push over fight.
A lackluster, incomplete product Posted 06 March 2007 As most of you are probably aware, the prequel to this game was simply fantastic--a truly interesting plot, excellent gameplay mechanics, and a real sense of immersion in the Star Wars universe. While this game could have been a worthy successor to the KOTOR title, it was unfortunately butchered and rushed out the door before it was completed.
The graphics and gameplay are pretty much identical to KOTOR 1, which isn't a bad thing at all. A few gameplay improvements were introduced, such as the ability to "influence" your companions. This is an excellent idea, though it was poorly implemented and doesn't really make much of a difference. Anyway, you can expect the game to play about the same, and if you enjoyed the turn based strategic combat of the original game, you'll have plenty of opportunities for more carnage, though you'll still have the 'missing lightsaber' problem for a goodly portion of the game.
The plot, however, is another story entirely. While it would admittedly have been hard to live up KOTOR 1's high standard, it seems like this game's plot would have been good, perhaps not great, but certainly good enough to justify the purchase...if only it had been completed. Apparently the development team was forced to cut much of the game's content just to meet their deadline, and believe me, it shows. Basic exposition, necessary to understand what's going on and why you're doing what you're doing was left on the cutting room floor. Just to give you one example, early in the game, it's clearly explained that if a certain event happens, your character will die. Later on, when that event happens, you are left unscathed, with absolutely no explanation given. Most of the plot just doesn't make sense--there's little coherence, plot holes are big enough to fly the Ebon Hawk through, and the ending is one of the biggest disappointments I've ever encountered in a video game. I kept waiting for the shocking event or revelation that would cleverly alter my view of what was happening and would make me care, but it never happened. This game is just a mess.
Then there are the bugs. And there are many, many bugs. Thankfully, hard crashes were rare, but certain side-quests were broken, or could be broken if you performed certain actions out of their intended sequence. The dialog trees were often humorously contradictory--one character's name would be accidentally substituted for another, gender would be confused, etc. I encountered one bug where I could gain an infinite amount of influence with one of my party members by just repeating the same conversation over and over again. The list goes on, but my patience doesn't. I have come to expect that programs as complex as modern games will have bugs, but by the time the game is released commercially, I expect those bugs to be minor and hard to find. That's sadly not the case with KOTOR 2.
In the end, I can't recommend this game to anyone. If you just want the action, then fire up KOTOR 1 and go for some mindless slaughter, and if you want a decent plot and engrossing role playing experience, then look elsewhere, because you won't find them here.
Sweet sequal Posted 18 February 2007 Ok I bought and beat KOTOR about a hundered times and then did the same thing with this game. THen I bought both of them back lol. This game is very well done and very very fun and one of the most enjoyable games ive ever played and I HATE RPG'S!! The 1st game had a bit better storyline I admit but the characters in this game as well as some other tweaks make it good (plus the storyline isnt horrible here just not as good).
gameplay is more convient than the first. Posted 15 December 2006 ok well the combat is really enjoyble the only thing is the story is stupid and they have wacked veiw of right and wronge if you dont pay attention to the story or just down right weird teamates you probly won't have a problem with i rented and beat it in seven days(on the dot) hehe
and im going to buy it again and beat it again then in the next month or so im going to go hey kotr2 sounds fun i think ill beat it again
cuz i beat the first one like five times and im doing it again beleive it or not tons of hours of gameplay lots of fun never gets boring if you halfway liked the first or just like star wars get it beat it do whatever
the only thing i absolutly despised was the story and the light side ending
have'nt beaten it on the dark side yet.
Loved the game, HATED the ending. Posted 11 December 2006 I won't spoil the ending for you, but it feels like the writers weren't done, and some boss said, just make some crap up and finish it in the next 15 minutes. Awesome game, awesome gameplay, crappy crappy ending. Also, it goes back and ruins the previously somewhat happy ending you had if you played the light side in the first game. I have never felt so betrayed by a game. I was so excited to get it, and so in love with the whole gameplay, plot, everything... then the ending destroyed it. I hope that the sequel (if any) can repair the damage, because I just heard thousands of angry voices cry out, then suddenly get silenced.
Surprisingly, I just played a game with a worse ending: Dreamfall, the longest journey. My review on that is another story.
