A toy for gearheads (really) Posted 14 June 2007 My son was into electronic toys that flash and play music. This toy was perfect for him. He played with it for hours on end and even fell asleep pushing the button. My daughter didn't care for it much ever. She just didn't like electronic toys. So, it will be a hit or miss depending on the interests of the child. I gave it 5 stars because I saw what a hit it could really be.
So much fun! Posted 07 June 2007 My 12 month old son loves this toy. I'd have to say it's his favorite thing to play with as he is really into spinning things.
We bought him this toy too early, I think he was about 6 months, and it wasn't very interesting to him then... although the bright colors and shining lights were fun for him to look at, he didn't give it much attention. However, since about 8 months he has LOVED this toy. I put all the gears on it for him and he pulls them all off (repeat a dozen times a day). He mostly enjoys the large center gear that spins. He sticks his fingers next to it (don't worry, it doesn't pinch when it's jammed) and stops it from turning (which makes an awful grinding noise that he enjoys... me, not so much). Or he'll "dance" to the music and lights. All this heavy use and we've only changed the batteries once!
I think this is a toy that will grow with him. Once he can stack the interlocking gears and put them on and off by himself with ease it will continue to be an interesting toy to play with.
unusual toy for a range of ages Posted 22 January 2007 We bought this for our daughter's first birthday. She was immediately interested and so was her three-year-old brother. In addition, her five cousins (ages 5-16) and their father (36)were also captivated. There are eleven gears in five colors that spin when the button is pushed. Initially, she loved to take the gears off and teeth on them. She is fourteen months now and puts them back on. She presses the button to watch them spin. She has taken it to the sitter's and the kids there have played with it all day. When we take it to the sitter's, I put it in a bag because the gears do not stay on when the toy is vertical. So far,it appears to be a toy that will grow with her as she and her brother play with it differently. We rotate toys, but I leave this one out continuously and I often find her playing with it quietly by herself. I have given it five stars because it offers a variety of ways to play (the gears can even be stacked), is different from all other toys they have, appeals to a wide range of ages, grows with the child, does not use up batteries (we are still on the first set), and seems very durable. I recommend this toy.
it had potential Posted 16 January 2007 I really thought my one year old son would love this toy, well he thinks it's okay b/c he loves to push buttons (there's only one), but I don't. I thought the gears clicked and stacked into place , like legos, making it a good toy to travel with, it even has a carry handle. Well, as soon as you lift it by the handle, all the gears fall to the floor. The one button it has sings the same songs over again. It needs to go back to the drawing board.
