Not really a toy, but a good game for adults Posted 24 September 2008 This is the second Murder Mystery game I have purchased from this company. As usual, the recipes were awesome and fairly easy to prepare for an experienced cook (don't worry, they do have an instant menu for those with a fear of kitchen utensils.)
The only drawback is the game caters to an even number of men and women. I work with all males, and we used this game as a farewell dinner for one of the guys. It was entertaining watching men play the female parts, but your guests may not have such a carefree spirit. Also, the game really is for 6 players. The two additional players have very small roles in the game. I had 10 people show up for the dinner--I adjusted the recipes to accomodate--and the extra guests had fun just listening to the dialogue and stirring the proverbial pot when they could.
I did order the Mob I, II, and III CDs which added a wonderful ambience. I saved the game disc and the music discs to my IPOD and took the show on the road. I also ordered an Italian theme party pack which allowed me to decorate the room to resemble an Italian restaurant.
All-in-all, it was a great night of good food, good conversation, and good friends.
Fantastic Night With Friends Posted 17 September 2008 If you are looking for a nice addition to a dinner party, this is the product for you! My husband and I had two other couples over to play the game. It went smoothly despite the fact that none of us had ever participated in a murder mystery before. It was pretty self explanitory and after 2 minutes, we all got the hang of the game. Encourage your guests to come in character. The character of "Rocco" showed up in a tuxedo...very appropriate. I set up my kitchen table like a table in a restaurant and created menus to put at each place setting. We served a different course of the meal just before playing the CD to advance to the next round. I was stressing about this but it worked out well. Just make sure that everyone is done eating the one course before playing the CD and moving onto the next. We had tons of laughs and took some fun pictures. Two of the six guessed the murderer. I will definitely be hosting another party soon. However, we will not be able to use this one again since we know the outcome.
Great party item Posted 10 July 2008 I bought this party set for my 12 year old's party. If you're uncomfortable with mild adult themes, don't buy it. But, it worked well for us and the girls had a blast. We decorated in an Italian theme and everyone dressed the part. We served sparkling grape juice in wine glasses and that was a great touch. The CD tells you exactly what to do and it was very easy to pull off.
Our Fourth Mystery Posted 06 March 2008 Pasta was our 4th mystery. As others have said, it is a nice Mystery for decorations and costumes. I was able to use decorations from around the house, including a memorial to Pepi Roni, and everyone was able to make their costumes from what they had in their closets. This is a great plus.
Dinner was a bit excessive. I cooked the entire thing myself. I was exhausted, but luckily I prepared most of the it the day before. The Ziti, Boboli, Garlic dip, and Mocha Cake were the best. I would just stick to those to make it simple. You don't want to end up exhausted!
No one guessed the murderer, but we still had a great time. Everyone enjoyed themselves, even the non-suspects. We had played other games with non-suspects before, so we knew what to expect. Even though, I think I will leave those roles out in the future.
This is an easy mystery to throw together and probably a good one for beginners. It is 100% scripted, you just have to change "you" to "I" which some people seem to have a lot of trouble with! Making your own accents was a lot of fun! "Rocco" sounded like the Godfather. For music I had Sinatra. Overall it was a great time, but these mysteries only do so much. The rest is up to your guests.
Murder Mystery Party - Pasta, Passion & Pistols Posted 02 January 2008 We invited six suspects for a New Year's Eve party and our guests had a great time. The costumes for each character were easy and fun. Although the kit includes a menu, we decided to keep it really simple and asked each guest to bring something (appetizer, salad and dessert). We provided the main course and beverages. Our guests enjoyed their roles and played them to the hilt. This was our third murder mystery party game and we will definitely do another.
