Comes Nowhere Near the Greatness of the Original Posted 23 February 2007 I bought this to play on my new Wii because I never did buy a gamecube, and man was I ever let down. I have a SNES system pretty much just for the original mariokart. It's great, it's something that challenges everyone and can be enjoyed by kids and adults. Double dash is so infantile it sickens me! The battlemode options are terrible! Who wants to play on top of a gamecube? That's the most uninspired thing I've ever seen! And other venues such as cookie land? I wanted to see sequels to the original, advances in the game but the same basic concept. This game is for kids much like the N64 version, look toward the gameboy DS for a better mariokart. A serious let down. If you liked the original at least rent it before you buy it just to see if I'm telling the truth here.
The bad part of Mario Cart Posted 22 February 2007 This is a fun game but if you have played the classic Mario Kart this one does not have as many of the classic stages and characters. The good thing about it is you can play head to head or by yourself. Each character has their own and unique powers and power-ups. We give it a thumbs up!
Mario Kart is still great... Posted 22 February 2007 Every version of this game is a lot of fun. Nintendo continues to produce new things for this, the two drivers, special items and picking your kart make this even better than the N64 version.
Original Mario Kart Much Better Posted 16 February 2007 Somewhat fun continuation but not as fun as the original Mario Kart for the 64. The original Mario Kart for the 64 had a freshness to it that just isn't here. Each track seemed different and fun to drive.
Double Dash seems more of the same. There is new functionality of allowing 2 players to drive 1 car, but this only complicates an otherwise straitforward game. The tracks seem less inspired than the first game. For example, 1 track is a very small loop that has to be circled 7 times. Yes, this is different, and it seems novel, but after driving it once, it is very boring. While I played the 64 version often, I hardly touch this version.
Mark's Mario Review Posted 02 February 2007 Mario Kart Double Dash!!
One of the best games $30 can buy.
Race yourself to set the fastest time on 12 different tracks in Time Trial mode. Challenge your friend to a race on your favorite track, or battle each other in 3 modes of play on 4 cool tracks. Choose two of your favorite Mario characters; there are 16 to pick from. Pick your car and race to victory. Race from solo to 8 players (you can play with 5-8 players if game system is linked to other systems). Plus pick up items to slow your opponents. This game is awesome to play with family and friends. It is also very easy to learn. Rated E, it is suitable for every one.
