Our Editorial Review
Product Description Squawkers McCaw the parrot is a talkin', squawkin' and totally unpredictable play pal. He's got plenty to say and plenty of attitude. Startlingly realistic, this plush-plumed "animatronic" parrot acts up, speaks up and gets down with more than 45 words, phrases and sound effects, including his signature "Squawk, Squawk, Squawk" song and dance. He'll dance to your tunes, too! By teaching him additional words and phrases, you can even "train" Squawkers to talk back to you, just like a real parrot. Be sure you have his cracker on hand when he gets hungry - otherwise you'll hear about it. Squawkers comes with toy cracker, remote control, perch and instructions. Parrot requires 4 "AA" batteries (included); remote control requires 2 "AAA" batteries (included). Parrot measures 12" tall.
Amazon.com Product Description The Hasbro FurReal Friends Squawkers McCaw Parrot might be the sassiest toy ever made. Squawkers McCaw is a full-size toy macaw parrot who, just like a real parrot, repeats words, can be "taught" to speak, and responds to touch. Witty, energetic, and completely unpredictable, Squawkers takes interactive play to a whole new level. He is recommended for children ages 5 through 10.
This full sized toy parrot that can repeat words, responds to touch, and more. | Just Like a Real Parrot Modeled after an actual macaw parrot, Squawkers McCaw has a velvety feather coat that makes him fit for cuddling. His vibrant blue, orange, yellow, and green markings are just like those of an actual macaw parrot. His feet are also fully articulated: He can stand on his perch or be propped up on a flat surface. And Squawkers doesn't just look just like a parrot -- he moves like one, too. Through highly innovative animatronics, Squawkers can move in incredibly convincing ways. He'll cock his head when confused or ruffle his wings when happy. He will even get down and dance to your favorite tunes, all while singing along. Squawkers loves mealtime, and comes with a cracker for when he needs to be fed. Sassy and Talkative The similarity to a parrot doesn't stop at physical appearance. Squawkers, with his advanced voice recognition system, can talk in a funny, squawky voice and repeat what your child says, just like an actual parrot. He has plenty to say and do the moment you bring him home -- for example, in response to "Hello" or "Are you hungry?", he'll respond with his own unique quips. However, he can be trained to do a whole lot more. Using the remote control, kids can program him to respond to their own custom questions. Kids can teach him to sing, tell jokes, and say whatever else they want him to say. Full of Personality Squawkers is a feisty parrot, and can actually switch moods depending on how your child interacts with him. He has a basic "repeat" mode, where he simply repeats any word spoken to him. He can also be humorous and playful, randomly responding to regular questions in nonsensical ways. Be careful, though: When Squawkers is irritated, he'll try to get attention by complaining and squawking loudly! Take good care of Squawkers McCaw, and you'll find that there is really no other parrot quite like him. What's in the Box FurReal Friends Squawkers McCaw Parrot, toy cracker, remote control, perch, and instructions.

Amazing Posted 19 April 2008 As an owner of two macaws that I hand raised I was a little wary of something like this but was really blown away by the remarkable actions of this " toy ". This is as close to a real bird as it gets and could easily be used for both children and adults as a way to educate them about macaws without using a real bird. It could also be used as a training tool for real birds to help them become adjusted to a bird presence without the danger of a real bird that might be a bit cranky.
I always wondered how it might be to combine the personality of my blue and gold macaw with the traits of my greenwing macaw and found that I could do it with this toy bird and found that it created just what I wanted it to do. Now I have what could be termed three pets. I wouldn't give this to a small child under six or seven as it is a little bit delicate [ just like a real bird } but over all it is well worth the price and I am really glad I bought it.

The best of the FurReal Friends series Posted 19 February 2008 I have checked out all of the FurReal Friends and this one I bought. It's capabilities far outweigh all the others. It has quite an extensive vocabulary, unlike the others that just make noise. It was so much fun for us adults playing around with it, it made it hard to give to my granddaughter who I had bought it for. The price is kind of high on here though. I paid $47 for mine at Walmart.
Novelty wears off fast Posted 01 February 2008 I bought this for my 4 year old daughter for Christmas. She really wanted it and when she got it, she was so excited. The product works as advertised and she enjoyed it very much. The only problem is that after about a week or so, it just sat on her dresser. At first she left it turned on, now it just sits there in silence with the switch turned off. Occasionally she will walk by and flip the switch on the back to hear it say hello, she will say 'Hi Squakers", then she turns it back off. While it sounds like a great idea in theory, your kids will tire of it shortly. Had I thought it through I probably could have figured that out myself but it just looked like such a great toy. If you buy it, just be prepared to have a very attractive and expensive talking paperweight.
Great gift for grown-ups Posted 25 January 2008 This is a nice novelty toy. It's sure to get people involved in the fun. I gave one to my parents for Christmas, and they had a lot of fun with it. Both the kids and adults who visited for the holidays were entertained by it, but overall I think this is a better toy for adults than for kids.
I gave it a "3" for durability because it seems solid enough, but not enough time has passed since the purchase to really know how it will hold up. It seems well built.
