Great music, great fun Posted 17 March 2007 I am getting this information from my son, for whom I purchased this game. He said it is fun and pretty challenging the more advanced you get in the game. The keys are pretty easy to manipulate and seem to strike on target, unlike some games where you 'swear' you hit the right key and you still lose. Overall, it's been a winner in our house.
Strap on your ax and plug 'er in! Posted 16 March 2007 This game, playability wise and feature wise is a giant step up from the original Guitar Hero. The two player mode with the individual difficulty settings allows you to play with your newbie friends without dumbing the game down for yourself, and how it lets you slow down certain parts of the song so you can master them does away with the frustration caused in the first game from failing the same song repeatedly over and over at the 75% mark and not being able to go further.
One thing that I was surprised about, is with all the hype about the big name bands that were going to be included in this game, but when it came out, the songs by some of them were ones I had never heard before. But the songs were great and very playable.
Also, with the inclusion of many cult favorites, everyone will find a song or two that is uniquely a favorite of theirs.
The difficulty on the medium difficulty songs in Guitar Hero II are harder than the medium difficulty songs on the original Guitar Hero, but the hardest songs on Guitar Hero II are easier than the difficulty on the original Guitar Hero.
Buying this game is a no brainer for anyone who is a fan of the original Guitar Hero, and unlike some sequels, anyone who has no experience with the original game can easily pick this one up and love it.
Guitar Hero 2 Posted 12 March 2007 This was a fun game but for us older guitar players, perhaps a different type of music would have been more fun. Most of the music was heavy metal, etc. But it was fun. I didn't like the sound of the keys hitting the guitar neck. It made a dull, clunky sound. Just needs a variety of music.
Novelty wears off. Posted 08 March 2007 This game was fun for about 2 weeks after I bought it. But then the novelty wore off, I beat all the songs on moderate, and the learning curve was way too steep to have fun on hard. There's two reason to by this game. To play it occasionally with friends, it would be a big hit in a dorm or something, or to dedicate countless hours to mastering the most difficult songs. If, however, you're a casual gamer who's going to be playing this mostly by yourself, I do not recomend it. It just isn't worth the 75 bucks.
An excellent game that brings people together Posted 08 March 2007 Everyone wants to play this game. I've made friends through this game. A very enjoyable game in which you play guitar. As simple as that, but far more fun than it sounds. The controller is a guitar with five buttons on the frets, a strum bar and a whammy bar. Playing is simple (in theory), it's a lot like DDR. When the note scrolls down to where you play it, you play it. Easy uses 3 buttons, medium uses 4, hard uses 5 and expert plays every single note and all difficulty levels increase speed. It's an excellent game for young and old alike (with songs appealing to all age groups).
