Melts really easy, and pointed towards the truck... Posted 27 July 2008 To much plastic.... I didn't have it too long and then a rocket got stuck on it and it began to melt. As it melted it pointed right towards the truck, causing some definite concerns! Burned a big hole in the metal plate too. About all that survived the desaster was the rod.
The Best Launcher to Buy Posted 24 March 2007 If you are into model rocketry, you are going to need a launch pad. Estes offers two pads, the "E" launch pad, and another, called the Porta-Pad 2. The Porta-Pad 2 is for the average rockets that take A, B, C, or D engines. The larger rockets require a more stout launch pad and guiding rod, thus, Estes provides the "E" launch pad. The "E" designation is for "E" engines, which drives heavier and more powerful rockets. (By the way, anyone under the age of 12 cannot launch an "E" rocket without having an adult present).
The "E" Launch pad has an adjustable base that will allow the rocketeer to adjust for the wind direction and speed. It is built with a sturdier launch rod, which will accept any sized rocket, from large (E) to small (A).
If the rocketeer never plans to progress into "E" engines, then the Porta-Pad is sufficient. However, if there is a chance that the hobby of rocketry will catch on and become an enthusiastic hobby, I receommend the E-Lauch pad, for it gives more versitility. Plus, it is only a few dollars more.
Model rocketry is a good and relatively inexpensive way for fathers and sons to bond in a joint project/hobby. A lot of science and math can also be learned by the enthusiast if desired. It is a fun hobby. The only requirement being a field large enough to launch and successfully recover the rocket. Rockets can be bought already made, or can be built from scratch; you can choose your own level of complexity. It is a wholesome hobby the whole family can enjoy.
