Fun and affordable Posted 03 December 2008 We order this every year so my daughter can make a plate for Santa. It's much more affordable than going to a pottery place. Yes maybe not quite as cute but it's personalized and the plastic plate is durable.
I still have one I made 22 years ago... Posted 29 May 2008 My son loves nothing more than eating off the plate that I made in kindergarten in 1986. I remember making it, and have held on to it ever since. I can't wait to get him started on his own now that he's entering kindergarten this year... I hope he keeps his as long as I've kept mine!
Looooong time to get them back, but good product Posted 04 May 2007 I was looking for a wedding gift that my children could make that could be personalized. I read the reviews here, including one by a person that said they received the plates in two weeks. Our wedding was in six weeks, so I thought we would have time. Alas, these took almost eight weeks to receive. I even called the company when we sent the product in to see if they could rush our order -- we sent the drawings to them overnight -- but they said they could not do a rush order. So I would say if you're looking to get these plates for a special occasion, be sure you have at least two months (more if you don't want to overnight the drawings to them). I let them know that their product description on Amazon.com at the time I purchased said it took "a few weeks," and I see it doesn't say that anymore, [...] I just want to be sure that others aren't disappointed by the wait, as we were.
That said, the plates came back done correctly (I had sent specific instructions and called them as well) and they are durable and cute. I think we will use this product again.
Becoming a much loved annual tradition!! Posted 07 December 2006 This is our third year having the children's artwork turned into plates. We have not had any problems with the creation of the plates from this company. The first year we used the Make-it plates and some of the children's artwork was cut off, probably due to the kids coloring over the 1/2 inch boundary (not a problem with this kit). We have also used the kits with special markers where the kids color directly on the plates, and we have had extremely poor results with those kinds of kits - the artwork has not lasted.
Anyway, the kids just love using their art plates and seeing how their artwork has changed over the years. If you have to buy gifts for many children of different ages, this is a particularly good gift because you can kill a lot of birds with one stone - meaning, this gift will satisfy children from 2 up through early middle school, boy and girl.
Fabulous Keepsakes - Preferred over the Makit brand Posted 20 October 2006 I've been having my kids create annual Christmas plates for quite a few years now. I've tried both Plateworks and Makit and Plateworks is the hands-down winner. Plateworks makes the process very easy. You can make extra copies of the "special" paper in case kids make a mistake or don't like what they've drawn (I make extra copies of the blank sheets before the kids even get started...just in case) and there is no 1/2 invisible border that they have to watch out for (making it MUCH better than the Makit Make-a-Plates). The outcome is beautiful and cleaner looking thatn the Makit plates. We've never had any mistakes or problems. Each of my children now have a number of plates, from early scribbles to today's more elaborate holiday scenes. Love it!
