Durability Posted 25 October 2008 A great travel set. A friend has had one for over 30 years. The black squares rub off over time and I've had the glue that holds the magnets melt when I've left the set in a hot car but still the most convenient and safest (least likely to lose a piece) travel set I've owned.
elegant and compact Posted 19 August 2008 I read every review before I purchased this set for my son. The beauty of it is you truly can put the cover on mid-match and put it into your backpack, confident that the pieces will not move till you're ready to resume your game. I expected that after reading the reviews, but I didn't expect it to be so distinguished looking. It is a handsome set. My son is thouroughly satisfied.
Magnetic travel chess set Posted 12 July 2008 The Carrom Magnetic Travel Chess Set has been used for years and was just replace because the first was lost. It's best feature is the ability to retain the position of the pieces of a game in progress undisturbed when the top of the case is closed for storage. The magnetic base of each piece holds firmly against the board and will prevent the pieces from moving under most situations, even when upside down. The size of the board and the pieces allows it to b packed easily and when used for a game, to be perfect at home, in the car or plane.
It will be usefull to color the tops of the black and white bishops with contrasting colors to make them more distinguishable from the pawns. I used a dab of fingernail polish.
Great for studying chess moves Posted 02 July 2008 This set is really great for studying chess moves. If you are in the middle of a game and want to keep the pieces in place for future study, this set allows you to do this. I read that you can scratch the board surface if you drag the pieces from square to square, so I am careful to lift the pieces off the board during moves. The pieces are small, but they are easily recognizable. I highly recommend this set.
a great thing, but don't leave it in the car! Posted 24 June 2008 I love chess, and have been a student of the game since I was 10, collecting numerous chess books, sets, computers, etc. I should be a grandmaster by now, but how many people have the time for that. My father-in-law gave me this Drueke set as a present. Very nice. I do find the proportions of the pieces to be a bit strange, but the magnets are by far the best ones I've ever seen in a magnetic set. I left this in the car recently during a hot spell, and the plastic case has melted. The board itself didn't melt, so from the outside it looks like a Salvador Dali object. I'll probably replace it, as I feel bad about letting it melt.
