Rayla - collector's review Posted 19 February 2008 I'm a collector a bit over 20 and was never interested in Barbie before. But just a few weeks ago I suddenly fell in love with Fairytopia as well as Mariposa and decided to get myself some of these dolls. Rayla is my first one. The reason I chose her and not some Fairytopia doll is her beautifully sculptured body. The shape of it is rather realistic and pleasant, I haven't seen barbies like this before, in times of my childhood they all were big-breasted, thin-waisted, with short arms - not realistic at all. But this one is great: she has some signs of collar-bones, her feet and hands are beautiful. Not very posable, though, and with this painted bodice she's more a figurine than a doll.
And her skin is covered with slight glitter which is rather pretty.
I must note that Rayla and all other Mariposa girls are a bit smaller that usual barbie - they're the same size with japanese 1\6 dolls, for example Momoko, about 27 cm, appr 10,5 inches tall.
10 minutes in refrigerator - and her wings change from blue to purple. Also, you can see her necklace then. And with water you can change her purple fringe to blue - cold also helps to turn it back to purple, as far as I got it. I simply touched it with wet fingers, then the hair changed colour and stayed blue until I exposed her to cold for some time.
Rayla's wings are detachable. I'm an adult collector and, though I like to play with my dolls sometimes, I don't think I can say something about durability. What's more, I have never been tough with dolls and haven't broken one in all my life, since early childhood.
It takes some effort to put the wings off and on and you should be careful not to break them.
Her hair was a bit too gelled, but I have fixed it easily with her hairbrush.
Overall, in my opinion she looks more beautiful than her promo photo - I'll try to upload some images later.
Sorry, that there's nothing useful for parents and children here - just my impression.
