Great Baby Monitor Posted 27 August 2008 We bought this baby monitor for use while staying with my parents. We went for something cheap but have been very impressed with the quality of sound and range of this one. Worked well even though we were downstairs and several rooms away. Baby unit needs to be plugged in but parent unit can be plugged in or used in battery mode. You need to buy 3 AA batteries for it though.
mostly works well     Posted 19 August 2008 I've had this monitor for 2 years, and it has definitely done it's job. I have it on 'sound activated' when it's on. I would recommend buying one as for the low price you get a product that works. Two drawbacks;
- sometimes parent monitor doesn't 'connect' to baby one when switching on - meaning you have to retry the whole switching on process. (Some channels seem to work better than others on this problem). NB: On mine there is a slight crackle on parent monitor after they have connected so you can turn off then back on etc till you hear the crackle.
- Its a bit fiddly to take the batteries in and out so I tried leaving them in and reconnecting to the mains (to save batteries) but the batteries ran down anyway. (I didn't contact manufacturer about this so maybe they could have helped.)
Reliable monitor, glad I bought it Posted 14 May 2008 Bought this for when my nephew comes to stay. As far as features go, it's not particularly complex, but for £30 you get Tomy quality and a decent monitor. You have the ability to take your unit outside into the garden and the choice of four channels gives you more chance of finding one that is free of interference.
I like the fact that the monitor has two-way communication, so you can talk to your baby with soothing sounds or whatever. This is probably something that we can make use of in later years when my nephew can communicate with us.
There is an in-built scrambling device which has 65,000 combinations ensuring that the chances of anyone listening-in are quite remote!
There is an option to switch the parent unit to `sound activated' which will then only start to pick up sound beyond `background noise'.
You will need 3xAA batteries for the parent unit which Tomy estimate will last for about 8 hours. You can use the parent unit by plugging directly into the mains.
