One of the best games I've ever played! Posted 15 January 2008 Taboo is basically talking Pictionary. You split into teams, and in each round one member of the team has to describe as many words as possible to his team mates within the time period. But there are some words that are taboo - that you can't say, and these are of course the words that you really want to say. A member of the opposition checks over your shoulder to make sure you don't slip up.
What this leads to is a fast-moving and at times hilarious game for all the family. It is a game in which age and other things that make a real difference in some more traditional games (like Trivial Pursuit) count for nothing, as what really matters is quick thinking, using words to get round the houses to things.
Some examples from my recent games were: For 'Street', where you aren't allowed to say things like 'road', 'row', 'houses' one of my friends went for 'Kevin - plays for Crewe Alexandra', which, to our astonishment, his team mate guessed. For 'Watch', where you can't say 'time', 'clock', 'pocket', the immortal line 'You use it to check your... uhh... Greenwich Meridian'.
This is a brilliant game which requires very little to play - you can vary the length, it almost fits in your pocket, and everyone will have fun!
More Please Posted 05 December 2006 I totally agree. This has to be one of the best party games ever.....BUT....the cards run out too quickly. We're very fond of loud party games like this one in our house and 200 odd cards just isn't enough for more than a few games. Sooo...does anyone know if we can get new cards from somewhere??
One of the best party games ever! Posted 10 January 2006 One team member gives clues in order to get the others in their team to guess as many correct words as possible within the time limit, but beware - use a word from the list of "taboo" words as a clue and lose a point. Naturally the taboo words are the ones you would be most inclined to use (try explaining "Puss in Boots" without saying cat, feline, shoes, footwear, or fairy tale!). Hilarity ensues. This game has all the essentials for a great party game - simple rules, a dash of tension, and lots of laughter. And best of all there is no limit to the number of people who can play! I have yet to meet a person who has played this game and not thoroughly enjoyed it. A must-have for any party game collection.
A mind-blowing game for all the family! Posted 24 May 2004 Taboo is such an exciting game. I find it incredibly educational too as you learn to substitute words..essentially, you become a walking thesaurus. Its a great after dinner game for entertainment when friends come round. Its also great when you go camping or even to take on holiday. Its a game you will remember long after you've played it and i guarantee, there will never be a dull moment the entire time. Watch out for the tension in friends and family alike!!! A game for all seasons!
