Our Editorial Review
Amazon.co.uk Review This is another edition of the world-famous popular word game for two to four players. The object of the game is to compete for the highest score by forming interlocking words in cross-word fashion on the Scrabble board using tiles displaying letters with various score values. Higher scores can be obtained by using the tiles in locations and combinations that make most use of the letter values and premium squares (eg: triple letter score, double word score, etc.) on the board.
The manufacturers recommend that the game is suitable for people age 10 years upwards, which is more or less accurate though slightly younger children could play, especially if there is some measure of supervision.
Contents There is a moulded plastic travel case, which features a magnetic playing board to hold the tiles in place. All the contents can be safely and tidily stored away inside the moulded case. There are 100 tiles of various values, a cloth bag to hold the tiles and a rules leaflet which is explicit and easy to follow.
This is an excellent, compact version of Scrabble which should give hours of pleasure when on the move. --Susan Naylor

Good But Not Great! Posted 10 November 2006 This edition is a nice compact size, easy for shoving in a rucksack pocket and great for that limited hand-baggage space.
The tiles are fiddly and stick together, but that is to be expected for something so small. The tile holders work well and slide neatly into the side of the board for storage when not in use. The letters stick nicely to the board and it can be folded closed mid-game without concern that your game will be ruined.
The big let-down on this addition is that the board, when open, doesn't sit flat and it feels quite flimsy - I half expect the hinge to break each time I use it.
This is a good purchase if you are very limited on space. However, if you can afford a bit extra space, try the travel edition which is much more durable, fits together nicely and feels like an all-round better product.
Poor addition to the scrabble "family" Posted 18 September 2006 Don't get me wrong, Scrabble is a fantastic game, my 2 stars has nothing to do with game mechanics, this edition gets two stars for being fiddly and falling apart.
The drawer provided for storing the tiles when not in use is only just large enough, meaning you spend an age at the end of each game arranging the tiles "just so" should you choose to use it.
It's also rather annoying trying to take tiles from the bag wheen they're so small and stick together. The racks do work nicely though.. ( much better than the ones with the "travel" version that make it very difficult to move your tiles around on the rack )
Worst feature of this set though ( or at least the copy I got ) is the hinge on the board, which snapped on about the 4th game played so now my board does sit flat ( which it didn't do when the hinge was in one piece ), but in two parts...
If you want a portable edition, my advice would be to go with the "travel" version ( and then only use the racks if you need to pause the game mid-way through )
For the traveling scrabble geek Posted 28 December 2005 This toy is small enough to go everywhere. On the plane, backpacking, in the bus, and to the pub in my purse. We play it all the time. The tiles are a good enough size for easy readibility. Do be careful not to lose any tiles, they're hard to come by.
Too small and flimsy Posted 12 August 2005 It's the classic Scrabble game, but it's too small to be usable. The main problem is the tiles - they 'bend' and eventually the magnetic coating separates from the letters. The normal travel scrabble is a much more sensible purchase.
Travel scrabble Posted 05 July 2004 This is a fantastically portable version of the classic scrabble game. It is easily moved mid-game and is very light and slimline and so easily fits in to a pocket or handbag. Very good buy - very difficult to find supplier
