Wonderful Posted 12 March 2007 My 9 year old son just opened this for his birthday. What a wonderful toy. He was able to make a flying saucer, lie detector and traffic lights straight away. He says it is wicked!!! I would recommend this to any other budding electrician.
They can't put it down! Posted 28 December 2006 I bought this for my 9 year old son for Christmas and both he and his 12 year old sister have already had hours of fun with it. Not only do they replicate the experiments in the very excellent instruction manual but they have moved on to inventing their own electrical experiments with some pretty impressive results. It is well packaged with a place for everything and so simple to use. I think that is the beauty of the thing - instant gratification with excellent results. Don't tell the children but I've had a go myself - it really is fascinating. If the manufacturers produce an up-graded model, I might just get one for myself!
Absolutely spot on! Posted 28 December 2006 I bought this for my eight year old for Christmas on the strength of the Amazon reviews...and if I could give it six stars I would do! From opening the well presented contents he has had no trouble at all constructing the circuits from the easy to follow plans. The components are wonderfully sturdy and clip together beautifully. Fantastic design concept...I wish I'd thought of it. He has been absorbed by this above all else including his playstation! For those who complain that there is no scope for instruction and expansion, I disagree. The circuits and components are clearly marked, fairly simple and easy to follow. The clip on construction allows easy interchangeability and experimentation. He's already experimenting outside the instruction book and I'm learning too! Any stimulation of interest in electronics and science at the age of 8 has to be worth every penny of this. Fantastic product and excellent value!
brilliant toy Posted 04 August 2006 My eight year old has a real butterfly attention span, but this engrossed her from the first experiment onwards. Her friends - of 11 and over are totally engrossed by this. Absolutely brilliant toy - the only thing I'd recommend is that the components had their names printed on them somewhere so kids get used to calling them by their names. Fantastic value too.
Where to go from here Posted 03 May 2006 A well made thoughtfully designed package let down by the complete lack of insight it gives for further work, or any understanding of what is going on. Without a lot of experience, its difficult to do anything else than the kit provides, and there are no resources for those kids that are blown away with the possibilities to go on to other things.
There is also very little guidance on what to do When Things Go Wrong.
So, regrettably this only gets 3 stars from my sons.
